Daniel L. Shafer, 75 of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully in his home on April 20, 2014. Celebration of Life services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Cowboy Church, located at 115 1st Avenue East, Walford. Dan's body has been donated to the University of Iowa as per his wishes. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family. Dan was born on June 2, 1938 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Daniel J. and Ruth V. (Bradley) Shafer. He graduated from McKinley High School in 1957 and spent two years in the United States Army. Dan was united in marriage to Barbara Miller. He worked as accountant for over seventeen years and in the hardwood floor business for thirty five years. Dan is survived by his wife of almost fifty years, Barbara; two daughters Jennifer Holt and Dawn (Craig) Kress; a son Christopher (Megan) Shafer; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. This is from the Living Bible 2 Corinthians, Verses 16-18 THAT WHY WE NEVER GIVE UP. THOUGH OUR BODIES ARE DYING, OUR INNER STRENGTH IN THE LORD IS GROWING EVERY DAY. THESE TROUBLES AND SUFFERINGS OF OURS ARE, AFTER ALL, QUITE SMAILL, AND WON'T LAST VERY LONG. YET THIS SHORT TIME OF DISTRESS WILL RESULT IN GOD'S RICHEST BLESSING UPON US FOREVER AND EVER. SO WE DO NOT LOOK AT WHAT WE CAN SEE NOW, THE TROUBLES ALL AROUND US, BUT WE LOOK FORWARD TO THE JOYS IN HEAVEN, WHICH WE HAVE NOT YET SEEN. THE TROUBLES WILL SOON BE OVER, BUT THE JOYS TO COME WILL LAST FOREVER. Memorials may be directed to the family.
