Dan
Weiler
July 17, 1950 – August 4, 2025
Dan B. Weiler, 75, of Mount Vernon, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, August 4, 2025. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre are assisting the family.
Dan was born on July 17, 1950, in Freeport, Illinois, the son of Paul and Margaret Evelyn (Hitt) Weiler. After graduating from Anamosa High School in 1970, Dan was employed by Weber Stone Quary in Stone City, Iowa, for 25 years. He then worked for River Valley Cooperative as a semi driver delivering grain and retired from there.
Dan is survived by his two daughters, Amy Woodhouse (Ed Van Saun) and Angela Weiler, his grandson Dean Paul Woodhouse; his former wife Linda Weiler, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his sisters, Susan Benters of Cedar Rapids, Ellen (Doug) Platner of Martelle, Iowa, and brother-in-law Paul (Sue) Lange of Sutliff, Iowa; as well as his loving nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Margaret Evelyn (Hitt) Weiler, his sister Heather Lange, niece Jacqueline Farrier and brother-in-law Dennis Benters.
Dan grew up in Stone City, Iowa where he took great pride in roaming the countryside searching for mushrooms, camping, hunting in the rolling woods and fishing, swimming, ice skating and boating along the Wapsipinicon River.
Dan was a quiet gentle soul and was loved by many. His lifetime hobby was cutting and splitting firewood, and he was known to many for his persistence with this.
He loved traveling to Canada, flying into the beautiful lakes and staying at the rustic cabins on Meandrine Lake. He was always proud to share stories of the 15 trips into Canada that he took with special friends and family. The Northern Walleye, Moose, and Bear stories were plentiful.
Brosh Chapel has been entrusted with Dan's cremation care. Private graveside services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you share a kind word, memory, or photo in remembrance of Dan's life.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
