Dale Francis Winder, 85 of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Waterloo and Independence, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2012 at Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion. Celebration of Life will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 10th at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW, with Reverend Dr. Nancy Redman presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior on Friday. A private family inurnment will be at a later date. Dale was born November 24, 1926 in Waterloo, the son of Lewis and Celia (Schaffer) Winder. He flew shore patrol and wrestled for the Navy Air Force during World War II. He married Mary McGrane on June 24, 1950. Along with his brother Jack, he was owner of Winder Sport Shop in Waterloo until his retirement in April 1985. Dale enjoyed the great outdoors; camping, hunting, fishing and playing golf. Dale is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary; also daughter Tandia Winder of Cedar Rapids; a son Troy (Marie) Winder of Bettendorf; grandchildren Holley Brasch of Cedar Rapids, Jamie (Brenda) Brasch of Gilbertville, Jenn (Benj) Kost of Rochester, Minnesota, Matthew Winder of Bettendorf; great-grandchildren Kloey Jones and Brady Brasch. He was preceded in death by a son Tracy and a brother Jack. In lieu of flowers memorials maybe directed to either Willow Gardens and or Care Initiatives Hospice. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Willow Gardens and Care Initiatives who provided excellent care for Dale.
