Dale Slocum, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at St. Lukes Hospital.  Services are pending with Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids.  A Celebration of Life gathering will be from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Private family will be in Sisley Grove Cemetery.

Dale was born September 7, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Dale K. and Emma Jane (Stangl) Slocum.  He graduated from Cedar Rapids Roosevelt High School, class of 1956.  Dale was united in marriage to Mary Jo Lumsden on December 27, 1971, in Cedar Rapids.  He worked for the Rock Island Railroad and the Iowa Northern for over 40 years, until his retirement in 2002.  He enjoyed watching Gun Smoke, playing chess, reading, having an occasional hot dog, as well as spending time with his family.

Dale is survived by his wife Mary Jo; six children Lori (Brad) Beverly, Tammy Slocum, Jeff (April) Slocum, Greg Slocum (Tammy), Josef (Caitlyn) Slocum, and Marcus (Courtney) Slocum; fifteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; his siblings Butch (Lynn) Slocum, Carl "Pink" (Connie) Slocum, and Mary Kathleen Harger; and his sister-in-law Kathy Slocum.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Nick Slocum, and his sister Joanne Blazek.
