Cynthia Marie Louvar, 53, of Hiawatha died Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy from lengthy battle with ovarian cancer. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 5 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, temporarily located at 3100 F Avenue NW with Rev. Sheri Andersen presiding. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. A private family inurnment will be held in Czech National Cemetery.
Cynthia was born October 15, 1955 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Richard and Theresa Zeman Larson. Cindy graduated from Kennedy High School in 1973. She achieved her four year nursing degree from St. Luke's School of Nursing. On May 28, 1978 she married Douglas Louvar at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Cindy was a registered Nurse at St. Lukes Hospital for over 20 years in Obstetrics and in the Pediatrics Office. Through the years, Cindy was a nursing instructor at Mount Mercy College and Kirkwood Community College. She received her certification from the National Institute of Learning Development, being both a school nurse and tutor at Linn and McLeod Acadamies. Her passion was to overcome diversity by customizing her teaching approach to suit each child's special needs. Cindy felt it important to maintain Board of Ethics, she left the traditional medical field to achieve her attunement as an Usui and Violet Flame Reiki Master in 2001. She started the Serene Healing Center and through her Enlightenment, she has been a guide plus mentor to many.
Cindy is survived by her husband Doug, her two sons Tony of Toddville and Tim (Abbie) of Fort Wayne, Indiana; her precious grandsons Bryce and Ethan ; a brother Rick (Deb) Larson of Brandon; and a sister Chris Larson of Cedar Rapids; her parents Dick and Theresa Larson of Hiawatha; a father in law Rudy Louvar of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and a mother in law Gladys Louvar.
