Constance Mae (Novak) Short, "Connie", 63, of Solon, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, March 17, after a 2 1/2 year struggle with cancer. Connie was the daughter of William and Irene (Vanorny) Novak. Connie grew up on the family farm near Oxford.
Connie is survived by her husband Steven of Solon and their blended family of 5 great kids. 3 sons, Joseph (Ana and Zach) of Iowa City, Michael (Erin) of Portland OR, and Jonathon (Caroline) of Swisher. 2 daughters, Kaci (Dave) of North Liberty, Samantha (Logan) of Cedar Rapids. 1 grandson, Harrison of Portland OR. 2 brothers, William (Marcia) Novak and Norman (Lisa) Novak, both of Oxford. 1 Uncle, Leonard (Karen) Vanorny of Ely. 1 Aunt, Blanche Volesky of Cedar Rapids as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families, and an even larger extended family. Can't forget her BFF, Kay, of Portland OR.
Connie enjoyed a 40 year career at the University of Iowa, first, at the hospital, then at the College of Dentistry.
Connie wishes to thank all of her doctors, nurses, and staff at the U of I hospital, Hospice of Iowa City, co-workers, family, and friends for their compassion and care. She thanks her neighbors for their help and watchful eyes. Special thanks to Sue, Teri, and Barb. Extra thanks to Diana, Deann, and Shannon with Hospice and to all the staff at U of I Community Home Care. The list of thank-you's is unending.
Connie was never happier than when she became "Babi" to her grandson, Harrison who was born in December of 2016. Per Connie's wishes, there will be no funeral services. She has donated her body to to the U of I Hospital for cancer research. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or cards, Connie would ask that you make a donation to the Solon Public Library. Connie, Mom, Babi... we all love you and will miss you so much. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids is caring for Connie and her family.
