Clement J. Philipp, 80, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007 at Mercy Hospital after a long battle with emphysema. Services: Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22 at St. Ludmila's Catholic Church by Father Tom McDermott. Visitation hour before Mass, lunch following in the church basement. Mr. Philipp donated his body to science.
Mr. Philipp is survived by his wife, Marilyn, and children John Philipp (Jodi), Tim Philipp (Shirley), Lynn Feuerbach (Dan), Morgan Philipp (Phiona), Todd Philipp (Jody), Sean Philipp (Shawn), daughter-in-law Janice Philipp, 24 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, his sisters Rose Sage, Florence Buresh, and Theresa Burns, his brother-in-law Wallace Morgan (Sirgute), and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Clement Michael Philipp, his brother, Fritz Philipp, and sisters, Martha Carter, Mary Michalec, Anna Neff, and Ruth Fulmer.
Mr. Philipp was born Oct. 25, 1926 at the home of his parents, Alwin and Marie Philipp, in Cedar Rapids. He attended St. Ludmila's School and Wilson High School.
Clement J. Philipp and Marilyn J. Morgan were married Aug. 28, 1948 at. St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Mr. Philipp worked at Concrete Materials in Cedar Rapids for 15 years and later was founder, with his sons, of ATC, Inc. in Cedar Rapids, where he was president until his retirement.
Mr. Philipp was an expert mechanic specializing in truck and heavy equipment repair, and enjoyed repairing any electrical-mechanical device. He also was proficient in carpentry, electrical, and plumbing work, and had built or restored many homes. He most enjoyed spending time with his family.
