Clarence "Cal" Wagner, 86 of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2011 at All Saint's Catholic Church, located at 720 29th St SE, with Fr. David O'Connor presiding. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW, where there will be a 4:30 p.m. vigil. Visitation will also be for an hour prior to services Monday at the church. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements. Cal was born February 17, 1925 in Dubuque, the son of Floyd and Esther (Koppes) Wagner. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in May of 1943. Cal proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Cal attended Loras College and was a Dubuque County Deputy Sheriff during this time. On May 19, 1948, Cal began his duties with the Iowa Highway Patrol - Badge #217, retiring on September 1, 1982. He met Marge at the Linn County Courthouse during a driving test that he was conducting. Cal married Marguerite Vomacka on November 24, 1949 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. In 1962, he helped establish and build the first cottage at the Jerry Rabiner Memorial Boy's Ranch in Ft. Dodge. He was a member of the Iowa State Troopers Association, Iowa State Policemens Association, Iowa Association of Chiefs of Police, National Sheriffs Association, American Legion Post #298 of Marion, USS Hogatt Bay Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars #788, the Holy Name Society, and All Saints Catholic Church since 1951. Cal is survived by his wife, Marge; a daughter Karen Wagner of Piedmont, South Dakota; sisters Madonna O'Brien of Dubuque, Rosemary Hudson of Coopersville, Michigan; a brother Paul Wagner of Dubuque, as well numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and two sisters. Memorials may be directed to the Jerry Rabiner Memorial Boy's Ranch in Ft Dodge.
