Clarence "Dempsey" Wade, 88 of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 2, 2015 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Burial with full military rites will be conducted at St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Brosh Chapel. Clarence was born January 20, 1927 in Green Valley, Iowa, the son of Henry and Carrie (Long) Wade. He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a gunners mate in the Pacific Theater. Clarence was united in marriage to Mary Magdalene Spratt on September 2, 1950. Dempsey was the night superintendent at Amana Refrigeration for over 38 years, until retiring in 1988. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. His hobbies were taking care of his lawn and home, as well as making home brew and wine. Dempsey is survived by his sons Larry (Betty) of Pleasant Plains, Illinois, Kevin (Anne) of Rockwell City and Gary (Lisa) of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren Christopher (Christine) Wade, Stacy (Chad) Louderman, Heather (James) Gibson, Brandon (Molly) Wade, Ryan (Jessica) Wade, Justin Wade, Gretchen (Ryan) Handly, Nathan (Stacy) Fett and Craig Fett; great-grandchildren Nora, Ben, Will Wade, Jack and Hudson Wade, Laney, Bryson and Grady Handly, Gwynneth, Allison and Nathan Wade, Riley, Wyatt and Grayson Louderman, Jade, Hayden, Dekota and Braydon Gibson and Isaac Fett. Dempsey was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary, who died on April 2, 2015, grandson Keaton Wade, and a great-granddaughter Addison Wade; his brother Bud Wade; sisters Orpha Adams, Opal Kerr, Dorothy Kelly, and Luella Lefever. Memorials may be directed to St. Ludmila Catholic Church in his name.
