Carson D. 'Doug" Smith ,63, of Hiawatha, formerly of Shueyville, died Saturday morning, April 15, 2006 at home following a long illness.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids with Rev. Daniel Winn, officiating. Private family inurnment will be at a later date. Friends may call one hour prior to services Wednesday at the chapel.
Carson was born on October 8, 1942 in Iowa County, Lennox Township, the son of David B. and Alice E. (Parvin) Smith. He graduated from Carson Valley High School. He served in the United States Navy from October 1964 until October 1967. He worked for TE Rex, formerly Cedar Rapids Inc as a welder. In his free time he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his children Ken (Christina) Smith of Shueyville and Jennifer (William) Wright of Grass Valley, California; a special friend and companion Elda Motland of Hiawatha; eight grandchildren Brittany, Gabryel, Mariah, Becky, Alex, Austin, Shelly, and Chloe; three step-grandchildren Kirsten, Samantha, and Melissa; and siblings Betty J. Smith of Cedar Rapids, Dennis R. Smith of Belle Plaine, Kenneth C. Smith of Marengo, Donna (Jim) Walker of Cedar Rapids, and Glenda A. Spry of St. Paul, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Dorothy M. Seaman and Helen R. Mosher, and two brothers Charles E. and Tilman R. Smith.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
