Carlyle "Buzz" Vanourney, 80 of Swisher, died Monday March 5, 2007 at St. Lukes Hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 8 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids with Rev. Tom Carver presiding. Burial will follow in Anderson Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by the Swisher American Legion. Visitiation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids and for an hour prior to services Thursday at the chapel.
Buzz was born December 9, 1926 in Swisher, the son of Leo Edward and Ethel Francis Schropp Vanourney. He married Shirley M. Wolfe on June 29, 1947 in Iowa City. He served in the US Army during World War II. Buzz worked for many years as a conductor for the CRANDIC Railroad until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the Swisher American Legion for many years.
Buzz is survived by his children Connie(Mike) Mead of Cedar Rapids, Ginny(Larry) Svec of Swisher, a son Don (Jamie) Vanourney of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren Lisa (Ian) Robinson, Brian (Jennifer) Mead, Matt and Carl Svec, Hannah and Haley Vanourney, Tami Heims, Tina (Tony) Baltes, and T.J. (Carrie) Fairley; and eight greatgrandchildren Alex, Riley, Madeline, Miles, Nathan, Brant, Blair and Creighton; sisters Irene(Guy) Maxa of Texas and Elaine Reynolds of Solon; a sister in law Wilma Vanourney of Swisher; a brother Dean(Valerie) Vanourney of Lewiston, Idaho; a son in law Tom Fairley of Lisbon.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a wife Shirley who died on May 19, 1989, a daughter Sandy Fairley, two brothers Bobby and Skipper.
