Carl Michael David
November 6, 1937 – May 15, 2025
Carl Michael David, a longtime resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025, in Southlake, Texas, at the age of 87.
Carl was a devoted keeper of family memories, known for his warm storytelling, deep faith, and unwavering love for his church. A lifelong member of St. George Orthodox Church, Carl's spiritual life was a guiding light. He found great joy in the outdoors, was an avid fisherman, and held a special place in his heart for his cherished pets. Carl was an incredibly kind, and loving man who never met a stranger.
In his younger years, Carl was a passionate athlete with a love for sports that stayed with him throughout his life. He was proud of his accomplishments in a variety of sports during high school and often reminisced about those formative years with pride and enthusiasm. His competitive spirit, team camaraderie, and discipline on the field shaped many of his values and lifelong friendships.
Carl also served his country with pride as a veteran of the U.S. Naval Reserves. His time in the Reserves was a source of deep pride, reflecting his strong sense of duty, patriotism, and commitment to something greater than himself.
In his later years, Carl found deep fulfillment in his work in the mental health industry, where he dedicated himself as a substance abuse counselor helping others navigate life's most difficult challenges. His compassion, empathy, and gentle strength made a lasting impact on the lives of those he supported.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Diane Joy David; his daughters, Michelle David and Jeannette Meyer.
Carl is survived by his loving children: Daneen Riley (Terry), Christine Beerup (Timothy), Amy Cable (Michael), Jerry Meyer (Regina Gilloon-Meyer), and James Meyer (Dawn Wise).
He also leaves behind many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom carry his legacy forward.
