Bonnie Jean Washburn, 86, of Solon, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 15, 2026, with family by her side at Skilled Nursing in the Solon Care Center. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Solon, where there will be a 3:45 p.m. rosary. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Solon, with Fr. Charles Fladung presiding. Burial to follow at Oakland Cemetery.
Bonnie was born on January 14, 1940, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Averill Dean and Margaret Ann (Brickner) Keith. She graduated from Solon High School, class of 1958. Bonnie married the love of her life, James “Jim” Ronald Washburn, on Valentines Day, February 14, 1963, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Iowa City. She worked at Ellison Insurance Agency, ACT, retiring as a manager, in 2005 after 33 years. She loved traveling to special locations with husband Jim and friends. In addition, she enjoyed reading, watching movies, playing computer games, going to lunch with friends, gardening, spending time with her family, but most importantly she loved being a grandma and great grandma. She was very active in her community, as a member of the Solon Women’s Club, St. Mary Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary, the American Cancer Society, and volunteered in her daughter’s 1st grade class.
Bonnie is survived by her children Lisa (Jerry) Kramer and Jim Washburn; grandchildren Lindsey Kramer, Karly (Brian) Goerdt, and Hannah Kramer; three great-grandchildren Kaiden, Kendall and Bryce; her sister Kathy (Ellis) Smith; her brothers Jim (Elaine) Keith and Bob (Pam) Keith; as well as her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Jim Washburn; her parents; her brother Marshall “Buck” Keith, and her brother-in-law Richard (Ruth) Washburn.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
