Bev was born August 17, 1933 in rural Wapello County to Cecil Grissom and Pearl (Vannoy) Grissom.
She attended country school, then attended high school in Winthrop, Iowa. She graduated in 1950 at age 16. Right after high school, she worked as a Nurse's Aide at the new Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Manchester. After 2 years, she moved to Cedar Rapids and began working for Collins Radio. She worked at Collins Radio for 10 years before finding her career with the United States Postal Service in 1968. She truly loved her job, she was a mail carrier for the north side of Mt. Vernon for many years before working inside as a clerk. After working in Mt.Vernon, she transferred closer to her home to the Solon Post Office. Working there until she retired in 2000 after 33 years of service. She was an active member in the Solon American Legion Auxiliary and St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was a huge CUBS fan!! She never left the house without her Cubs earrings and Cubs necklace.
In 1954, she met Leonard Noska at Danceland, and they were united in marriage on Nov. 5, 1955 at St. Patrick's Church in Cedar Rapids. They started their lives together in Solon, and in 1957 they found their perfect home. In this home, they raised their three daughters and three sons, and created a homebase for years to come. This home was filled with love, laughter and constant commotion between her children and the neighborhood friends. Hosting many Beef Days parties, baby showers, birthday parties, graduation parties and holiday gatherings.
Bev enjoyed volunteering for various organizations throughout the community. She never slowed down. You would see her in her green van that had "God Bless America" posted on its window, driving throughout the corridor, delivering meals or dropping off homemade treats to all her local businesses and favorite firemen. She ran a can drive for over 20 years out of her garage to raise funds for the Solon Senior Advocates allowing them to purchase a van. She loved to dance and play cards but the most important things to her were her grandchildren. She loved them dearly and would be there to support them in all of their endeavors.
Beverly is survived by her six children, Lana (Craig) Hoffman of Mt. Vernon, Lora (Bruce) Zaruba of Tipton, Lisa Camacho of Iowa City, Loren (Cathy) Noska of Solon, Larry (Sue Andriano) Noska of North Liberty, Leon (Dawn) Noska of Cedar Rapids.
