Betty L. Sedlacek, 95, of Fairfax, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, in Hiawatha. Visitation will be from 3 to 6p.m. Thursday, December 26, 2024, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2024, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, temporary location of 995 5th Avenue in Marion. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fairfax.
Betty was born on November 24, 1929, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Franklin and Josephine (Andrews) Goodrow. She graduated from Marion High School. Betty was united in marriage to Richard Wesley Sedlacek on September 16, 1950, in Davenport. In her early years she worked at the telephone company, Welch Cook, and Amana Refrigeration. Betty was a dedicated homemaker raising her family with great pride. She enjoyed gardening, ceramics, camping, fishing, going on vacations, and most of all spending time with her family, especially the grandkids.
Betty is survived by her children Frank (Kathy) Sedlacek, Terry (Kathy) Sedlacek, Shirley (Stevan) Ehrle, Denise Schumacher and Brenda Hansen; sixteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; her sister Carol Reagan; as well as her nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband Richard, her daughter Sue Ann Sedlacek, her grandchildren Shane Ehrle, Anthony Schumacher, Matthew Schumacher and Christopher Carl Ehrle, her sister Virginia (Robert) Reulbach, and brother-in-law Franklin Reagan.
