Bessie Nemec Robovsky, 93 of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center after a short illness. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 6 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids with Rev. William Harnish presiding. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 5 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids and for an hour prior to services Monday at the chapel. A reception will be held immediately following the burial in the Oak Room at Cottage Grove Place.
Bessie was born November 17, 1912 in Cedar Rapids the daughter of Joseph and Anna Nemec Sr. She attended Czech School as a youngster and was fluent in the language. Bessie married Charles Robovsky and they worked together for many years in their business Robo Plumbing in Cedar Rapids.
Bessie was extremely proud of her Czech heritage. She was involved in many organizations, including Western Fraternal Life Association where she served as an officer, Sokol, Eagle, American Legion and the Czech Museum. Bessie loved dancing polkas, listening to Czech music, attending festivals, being a homemaker, and her real passion was in the kitchen. She loved to bake especially kolaches.
Bessie is survived by her nieces and nephews, including Richard Nemec and Don (JoAnn) Nemec all of Cedar Rapids; great nephews Joseph Nemec and Justin Nemec; greatgreatnieces and nephews Rachel Anne, Jeffrey Joseph, and Channing Elizabeth Nemec.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Charles who died in 1995, a brother Joseph Nemec Jr., and a great niece Julie Ann Nemec.
