Bessie Zurka Drahos, 96 of Solon, died Monday, April 6, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2009 at Brosh Chapel in Solon. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be an hour prior to services Friday at Brosh Chapel in Solon.
Bessie was born September 22, 1912 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Michael and Anna Vanous Zurka. She married George Drahos on April 20, 1940 in Clinton. Bessie loved to dance, bake, and recycling greeting cards.
Bessie is survived by her niece, Patricia (Roy) Thomas, and her nephew, David (Ruth) Zurka.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband George Drahos on June 4, 1993; brothers, Michael, Frank, Edward, and Fred Zurka; and a sister Ella Pochobradsky.
