Arnold Joseph Yanecek, 88 of Walford, died Monday, August 31, 2015 at Colonial Manor Care Center in Amana. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Clover Ridge United Methodist Church, 125 5th Street North, Walford. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Clover Ridge United Methodist Church. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family. Arnold was born March 20, 1927 in Walford, the son of Joseph and Anna (Weland) Yanecek. Arnold married Mary Gooden on November 21, 1948 in Cedar Rapids. Arnold worked at Kraus Manufacturing, Case Implement - Cedar Rapids, and along with Mary worked together on the family farm for many years. He enjoyed antiquing, attending sporting events, garage sales, and mostly the time spent with his family, especially the grandkids. Arnold coached little league teams in Walford, a 4-H leader and a board member in Benton County. He served as a school board member at Prairie High School- Cedar Rapids, a Masonic Lodge member, and served on the board of directors at South Slope Co-Op for over twenty five years, as well as being a life-time member of Clover Ridge United Methodist Church. Arnold had a generous heart and enjoyed helping others. Arnold is survived by his children James (Kay) Yanecek of West Branch / Minneapolis, Minnesota, Ruth (Daniel) Becker of Williamsburg, David (Jan) Yanecek of North Liberty and Douglas (Shelly) Yanecek of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren Bradley (Stephanie) Yanecek, Jill (James) Steffes, Jason ( Amy) Becker, Keith (Rachel) Becker, Jeff Yanecek, Emily (Rob) Tomich, Katilyn Yanecek, and Drew Yanecek; nine great-grandchildren Jaida, Jalila, Vivien, Griffin, Channing, Owen, Reid, Levi and Landen; a sister-in-law Kathy (Dale) Hein of Tipton; two brothers-in-law Richard Gooden and Bob Bartlett both of Cedar Rapids; and a sister-in-law Myrtle Yanecek; as well as his nieces and nephews. Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary, two granddaughters, a brother Merle Yanecek, and his mother and father-in-law Margaret and Glenn Gooden. Memorials may be directed to Essence of Life Hospice or to the family.
