Arnold "Arnie" Svec, 75 of Swisher died Monday, October 02, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center from a battle with cancer. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 Friday at St. Patrick Church in Cedar Rapids. Burial will follow in Anderson Cemetery in Swisher, with full military rites conducted by the Swisher American Legion Post 671. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday where there will be 5 p.m. vigil at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Arnold was born December 7, 1930 on the southwest of Swisher, the son of Louis and Barbara Pospisil Svec. He went to Dupont grade school and Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids. He married Louellen Kadera on October 6, 1953 at St. Mary's Church in Oxford. He served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1951- 1953. Arnie worked for over 38 years at Cherry Burrell Corporation. He was a member of the WFLA Lodge #400, the Amercian Legion Post 671, St. Patricks Church, UAW Local 1024 and worked part time for Cerveny Farms and the City of Swisher. Arnie liked fishing, dancing and working with metal. He enjoyed spending time with his family and liked to joke around with his grandsons.
Arnie is survived by his wife Louellen of 53 years; two daughters Kathy (Stanley) Misbach of Marengo, and Penny (Kevin) Zacek of Swisher; a son Larry (Ginny) Svec of Swisher; five grandsons Michael Misbach, Matt and Carl Svec, Marcus and Tyler Zacek; two brothers Melvin (Jody) Svec and Verne (Virginia) Svec; a sister Diane(Darrell) Gladwin all of Cedar Rapids. He is preceded in death by his parents, a niece Julie Svec.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Swisher Fire Department, Swisher American Legion, St. Patricks Church, Hospice of Mercy or the Anna Ghosh Foundation.
