Arnold "Arnie" Dean Soukup, 83, of Lisbon, died on Monday, August 1st 2016 in his home. He was born on May 1st, 1933 as the son of Lydia and Anton Soukup of Cedar Rapids. He was also the brother of Marvin Soukup and Dorothy Horak, both deceased. He is survived by his daughters Ellen Townsen and Diane Yoder, his sons Charles and Joe Soukup, and Carol Hauser. Arnie grew up in the Cedar Rapids area, yet helped tend his sister's farm in Brainerd, Minnesota during the summers. He was an exemplary high school football player and track star. After high school, he ran a gas station in Cedar Rapids before enlisting in the Navy during the Korean War on an ammo ship, The U.S.S. Rainier. After a blind date and nine months of dating, Arnie married Carol Robinson in 1961 and both moved to live in Solon, IA. The Soukup family then moved to a farm in Ely, Iowa in 1973 whereupon they adopted Joe from Korea and later, Diane, also from Korea. Arnie retired from the farm after 20 years and moved to Lisbon where he remained until his death. He was the very proud grandfather of 7 beautiful grandkids.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, August 11th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. A private family inurnment will be held at Rogers Grove Cemetery near Ely, whereupon Arnie's ashes will be scattered on what was the family farm's pond.

Memorials and donations may be given to the Salvation Army in Arnold's honor.
