Anna Blanch (Novy) Shimon, 97 passed away Saturday, April 4th, 2015, at Karen Acres Care Center, Urbandale. A private mass service was held April 8th for the immediate family at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon. Anna was born to John & Anna (Zachar) Novy on November 24, 1917, in Solon. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and Altar & Rosary Society. She worked for Brosh Chapel in Solon, where she greeted people with her warm smile and made them feel comfortable. Ann was a dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother & a great-great-grandmother. She was a beautiful seamstress, loved gardening, canning, fishing and working in the timber along the Cedar River. Ann worked hard at everything she did and accomplished many activities with her hard worth ethics. The highlight of her day was playing pinochle and euchre with her husband "Cookie" and sister & brother-in-law Len & Dave Stochl. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank C. "Cookie" Shimon, grandson Brian Bair, her parents and ten brothers and sisters. Ann is survived by her daughter Sally (John) Beretta of Urbandale; four grandchildren, Sherri (Gary) Sayre, Kris (Rex) Kelly, Amy (T.J.) McCarthy and Lynnette Beretta, (friend Dan Terrell), ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; nephew Dave (Joyce) Stochl, and many other nieces and nephews. A special thank you to all the staff at Karen Acres Heatlh Center in Urbandale, and to Gentiva Hospice for their attentiveness in taking care of Anna. Memorials may be directed to the family to be donated to Karen Acres Health Center and Gentiva Hospice.
