Amber Elaine Simmons, 45, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024, after health complications with COPD and asthma.

Amber will be remembered by her beloved children, Keegan Simmons, Kayden Simmons, Kierra Godard, and Karter Alberts, as well a host of friends and family who she has departed from too soon. Amber was a charismatic person who could make a friend anywhere she went, and she always made you feel special through her affection and attention to detail. Her adventurous spirit and sense of humor added joy and laughter to everyday moments.

Amber was born on July 31, 1979, to Judy Lee Groenwald (Speer) and Patrick Lee Alberts in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After graduating from Jefferson High School in 1997, Amber attended Kirkwood Community College as a nursing student. She later graduated with a Cosmetology License from Capri and worked for many years as a hair stylist. Amber also excelled in sales and won the President's Club Award from Hibu in 2013.

Her most cherished role in life was being a mom. She was her children's biggest cheerleader at their sporting events, dance, and reminded them that they could accomplish anything. They were her pride and joy. She also enjoyed cooking, going to the casino with her mom, and having friends and family together for holidays.

She is survived by her children, her mother, Judy Groenwald; brother, Andrew Alberts; nephew, Hudson Alberts; grandfather, Don Speer; grandmother; Carol Alberts, and a host of step-sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who became family. She is joined to rest by her father, Patrick Alberts; step-father, Chip Thompson; and her grandmothers, Janet Speer.

In lieu of flowers, her family is requesting that donations be made to help make cremation plot arrangements and for a Celebration of Life after the New Year. More information will be provided as plans are made.
