Alma Detert Benesh, 90 of 116 Walford Road SW, Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at the Solon Care Center after an extended illness. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 14 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids with Rev. Tom Carver presiding. Burial will follow in Anderson Cemetery in Swisher. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, and for an hour prior to services Friday at the Chapel.
Alma was born December 6, 1915 in Jefferson Township in Johnson County, the daughter of Theodore and Mary Stransky Detert. She attended school at Vorel No. 6. She married Milo Benesh, February 7, 1933. They farmed together until Milo's death on July 18, 1995. She was a life long farm wife. She enjoyed gardening, baking kolaches, cooking, traveling, hosting family get togethers, helping on the farm and attending family sporting events. Alma has remained on the farm since they moved there in 1933.
Alma is survived by her son James (Esther) Benesh of Cedar Rapids; daughters Marilyn (Vernon) Ziskovsky of Swisher and Iona (Elmer) Vanorny of Solon; fourteen grandchildren Lynnette (Mark) Fevold, Dwane (Ann), Lyle (Deb), Norman, Alan (Katie) Ziskovsky, Dan Vanorny, and LaVina (Dave) Barcus, Darek (Kayoko) Benesh, Tanna (Reggie) Meade, Kristy (Darren) Cerveny, Wyndee (Pat) Breheny, Jodie (Jacob) Hargrafen, Andy and Rodney Benesh; eighteen great grandchildren; a sister Elizabeth Becicka of Cedar Rapids; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Alma was preceded into death by her parents; her husband, Milo; brothers Jormill, Lewis, Milo and Lumir; also a sister Tillie Kadera.
Memorials may be directed to the family or to a charity of the donors choice.
