Allen Williams, 73 of Cedar Rapids, passed on with his family by his side on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center. Services will be 12 noon Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Gospel Tabernacle Church, located at 2531 42nd Street NE. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2011 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Allen was born January 30, 1938 in Lyndon, Alabama, to the late Eugene and Flora (Hopkins) Williams. He married Queenetta Mollette on December 23, 1958 in Mobile, Alabama. Allen and Queenetta moved to Cedar Rapids in 1966. He worked at Quaker Oats for 29 years before retiring in 1997. Later in life, Allen reaffirmed his relationship with the Lord. Allen leaves behind his devoted wife of 53 years, Queenetta; his loving children Cheryle McGinnis of Alabama, Debra Hughes of Cedar Rapids, Lorenzo Williams of Indiana, Lester Williams of Cedar Rapids, Donald (Deborah) Williams of Hiawatha, Donna (Kevin) Flanagan of Cedar Rapids, and Tynissa Williams of Phoenix, Arizona; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother and sister Eugene (Barbara) Williams and Evielean (William) Thomas; sister-in-law Pastor Emma Jean Williams; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edward and John Henry; and four sisters, Margorie, Reola, Eloise, and Frozene. Allen was affectionately known as "Big Al" to his family and friends. He loved to fish, cook, play bingo, and spend time with his family. Memorials may be directed to the family.
