Alexander Michael Gavia Vosdingh passed away at home in the afternoon of August 5th from complications due to lifelong disabilities. Alex was 21. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 11, 2014 at St. Ludmila Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, August 10, 2014, with a 3 p.m. parish rosary at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. There will be a luncheon in the church basement following the service on Monday. Burial will be in the Shueyville Cemetery following the luncheon. Alex was born in Fullerton, California on October 12, 1992 to Mike and Mary (Gavia) Vosdingh. He faced many physical and developmental challenges throughout his life yet proved to be the bravest soul any of his family and friends have ever met. Alex didn't speak but his life spoke volumes to many people. The numerous friends, caregivers, and medical professionals who encountered Alex will undoubtedly have a place in their hearts for him forever. Those close to Alex knew that a smile from him made many, many a bad day go away. Alex truly enjoyed his many years at school with his friends here in Cedar Rapids including Grant, Taft, Taylor, and Jefferson High School, where he graduated with his younger brother Austin this past May. Alex was also captivated with baseball on TV.he didn't have a favorite team but always liked catching the Cubs, Cardinals, White Sox or Yankees. Alex is survived by his parents, Mike and Mary Vosdingh and his brother, Austin. He will be missed by his grandparents, and his many aunts, uncles, cousins, caregivers, and friends from around the country, all of whom will be mourning his loss.
