Agnes Marie (Nedved) Hagen, 91 of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Solon, died Tuesday, January 12, 2016. Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel in Solon.
Agnes was born September 6, 1924 near Garner to John F. and Mary A. (Formanek) Nedved. She graduated from Garner High School in 1943. After graduation she worked as a telephone operator for over 5 years in Garner. Agnes was united in marriage to Charles Fernald Hagen on October 17, 1951 in Garner. She owned and operated Lakeland Lunch near Lake MacBride for 13 years. Worked at the Solon Hardware Store, So-Fro Fabrics, Solon Schools and the Solon Care Center, where she retired after working there for 23 years, retiring in 2006. In 2007, she sold her Solon home and moved to Cedar Rapids. She loved baking, sewing, embroidery, reading and spending time with her family especially grandkids and great-grandkids. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church - Solon, St. Ludmila's Catholic Church- Cedar Rapids, St. Anne's Circle and the Order of Catholic Forresters.
Agnes is survived by her children Pam (Lon) Spengler of New Liberty, Patricia (Joe) Strickland of Marion, Paulette (Bo) Yotty of Kalona, Perry and Paul Hagen of Cedar Rapids and Peggy (Joe) Baughman of Waukee; grandchildren Kelli Spengler, Kristin (Jason) Dyer, Kaylon (Danielle) Spengler, Corey (Leah) Strickland, Katie (Aaron) Runge, Kyle Strickland (Ann Marie Woods), Ashley Yotty (Justin Comer), Jacob Yotty, Amber Baughman and Maia Denge-Hagen; great-grandchildren Ava Strickland, Nolan and Lilah Runge, Jensen Dyer, Evan and Elin Strickland, Scarlett and Savannah Spengler; her three sisters Marie Schoenwetter, Blanche Rasmussen, Mildred (Bill) Schmidt; and her brother Eugene (Sheila) Nedved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles, sister Regina Alborn, an infant brother, nephew Danny Alborn, brother-in-laws Wayne Schoenwetter and Forrest Rasmussen, her nephews Charles Schoenwetter, Billy Schoenwetter and Franklin Rasmussen.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy in her name.
