Adolf "Shorty" A. Wille, 81, died Monday, January 1, 2007 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City from complications from a stroke. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2007 at Brosh Chapel in Solon. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by the Solon American Legion Stinocher Post #460. Visition will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel.
Shorty was born October 1, 1925 in Iowa County, the son of Adolf and Minnie Wardberg Willie, Sr. Shorty served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Germany. He married Edith VonAhsen on January 5, 1947 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Shorty was the Sexton at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Iowa City for over 33 years, retiring in 2002. He loved to camp and play cards.
Shorty is survived by his wife of 60 years Edith, sons Dale (Barb) of Waterloo, Randy (Cindy) of New Boston, Illinois and Curt (Julie) of Fairfax, a daughter Mary Bartlett (Bob Kuncl) of Tipton, six grandchildren, a sister Luella Brockshaus and a brother Donald (Delaine) Wille all of Williamsburg. Preceding him in death were his parents, a son Dennis, a brother Eldon and a sister Gertrude Drucker.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.
