
The
funeral directors at Brosh Chapel are responsible for implementing
the wishes of families in planning a meaningful funeral service
for their loved one. The role of the funeral director is that
of a caregiver and administrator. Their responsibilities include
making arrangements for the transportation of the body, meeting
with the family of the deceased to plan the visitation
and funeral service, preparing the deceased for the visitation
and funeral service, completing necessary paperwork, notifying
local and out-of town newspapers of obituary information, as
well as performing any additional services requested by the
family. Our funeral directors continue to serve families after
the funeral service by assisting them with insurance and/or
veterans claims or providing grief support resources to assist
the family in making a life transition without their loved
one. Our competent staff is available 24 hours a day, 365 days
a year to serve the community.

Terry Brosh

Terry L. Brosh, Owner of Brosh Chapel Inc., a fourth generation funeral director,
has been licensed by the State of Iowa since 1970. Terry was born and raised
in Cedar Rapids in the heart of Czech Village, and graduated from Thomas Jefferson
High School in 1964. He attended Winona State College until 1967 when he enlisted
in the United States Navy. Graduating from Hospital Corps School, he spent over
two years as a Medical Corpsman with the Navy and was attached to the Fleet Marine
Force and Military Sea Transportation in Vietnam. He was also stationed aboard
the U.S.S. Sanctuary Hospital Ship as well as in country service. Terry graduated
from San Francisco College of Mortuary Science and started working with his father
at Brosh Chapel in March of 1970.
Over the years, Terry has been involved in many local organizations. He was active
in the Sutliff Bridge Authority where he helped save the old bridge in Sutliff.
Terry was a charter member of the Solon Stone Academy, as well as being instrumental
in the restoration of the old school house. He is currently a member of the Solon
American Legion Stinocher Post # 460. Terry is a former board member of the National
Czech and Slovak Museum and Library in Cedar Rapids, and a past board member
of the St. Peter and Paul Historical Society. An avid contributor to many wildlife
and conservation groups, Terry helped found the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City Chapter
of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He is a member of Hus Memorial Presbyterian
Church in Cedar Rapids. Terry is a member of Sokol in Cedar Rapids. He is a member
of the Cedar Rapids and Mt. Vernon Chamber of Commerce. Terry is also a member
of the National Funeral Directors Association and the Iowa Funeral Directors
Association.
Terry and his wife Christine were married in October of 2003. He has two sons:
Justin, his wife Laurie and two grandsons Austin and Ashton of Metter, Georgia;
and Matt of Lisbon, Iowa. Terrys hobbies include fishing, hunting
and all outdoor activities, especially time spent with their golden retrievers,
Lizzie and Sunny.
Matt Linn

Matthew W. Linn was born in Des Moines and raised in Indianola, Iowa. While growing
up, Matt maintained a busy life. He was active in many sports including football,
basketball and baseball. He learned at an early age the desire to work and be
involved in the community. Matt graduated from Indianola High School in 1991.
He then attended Grand View College in Des Moines to pursue an education and
to play baseball. After two years at Grand View, Matt moved to Denver, Colorado
and attended Regis University. The culmination of his studies resulted in a degree
in Business Administration with a minor in Physical Education in 1996. While
in Colorado, Matt became interested in the field of mortuary science. He worked
full-time for Olinger Mortuary in Denver while completing his degree. He realized
the funeral profession was his calling in life.
Matt then attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago, Illinois and
graduated in 1997. Matt worked for Steuerle Funeral Home in Villa Park where
he received hands on training while attending school. This opportunity proved
to be very valuable to him both professionally and personally. Matt completed
his internship at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service in Waterloo, Iowa and
was extended the offer to join the staff as a licensed funeral director. He was
taught by some of the best over his six years of employment. Matt also met his
future wife while working in Waterloo. Matt and Katie Hagarty were married in
August of 2003 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Matt and his wife moved to Cedar Rapids and began working for Brosh Chapel in
January of 2004. Matt and Katie are members of St. Ludmilas Catholic Church
in Cedar Rapids. Matt is a member of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association.
Matt is also a 4th Degree Knight and is active in the Cedar Rapids
Knights of Columbus. Matt enjoys traveling, golfing and attending various sporting
events. He also enjoys the company of his family and yellow lab, Buddy.
Karen M. Ryan

Karen M. Ryan was born in Iowa City and raised in Fairbank, Iowa. She graduated from Wapsie Valley High School in 2002. Karen continued her education at Hamilton College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, graduating with an associate's degree in Criminal Justice. Towards the end of her studies, Karen began helping out and gaining experience at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein, Iowa. It didn't take long for her to realize that this was what she was supposed to do.
Karen attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Wheeling, Illinois and received an associate's degree in Mortuary Science in 2005. Karen began her internship at Brosh Chapel in May of 2006. She is an active volunteer for the Animal Welfare Foundation. In her spare time, Karen enjoys spending time with her family and her dogs, Ceasar and Piggy.
Diane M. Martinsen

Diane M. Martinsen was born in Dubuque oldest of four girls and raised on a farm near Worthington, Iowa. As a licensed cosmetologist she owned her own business for ten years in Monticello. Also in Monticello she worked for Goettsch Funeral Home as an Office Manager for seven years. Most recently she was a Regional Sales Manager with General Electric’s premier leasing vendor. In addition for many years she has been working in the financial industry dealing with investment and insurance counseling and holds Iowa Life and Health Insurance licenses.
The common denominators in her career experiences are customer focus and the love of working with people of all ages and backgrounds. As of November 2005, Diane became a member of the staff at Brosh Chapel, as a Family Service Counselor.
Diane and her husband Mike live near Monticello. Mike is a machinist at Energy Manufacturing Company. Together they have two children, a son Adam, who is living in Swisher and working for a landscaping firm and a daughter Ashley, who is a second year student at the University of Iowa majoring in Special Education. The Martinsen’s are members of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Monticello. Diane has served on Church Counsel, Youth Ministry Team, was a confirmation group leader, mentor and volunteered as member of the Monticello Cemetery Board. Diane enjoys traveling and camping with family and friends, her hobbies include various forms of art, reading and cooking.
