Brosh Chapel History

In 1885, Frank J. Brosh and his wife, Anna began a furniture and undertaking business in Solon, Iowa.  The business was located on Main Street in the building which is now the Solon Hardware Store. Years later the business was relocated to a large house off HWY 1 in Solon.  Frank A. and his wife Millie assumed ownership of the funeral business from Frank's father during the late 1920's. In the early 1930's, Frank A. expanded his funeral business to the Czech Village district in Cedar Rapids. The original building purchased by Frank A. is located across the street from the current Brosh Chapel facility on the South East side of Cedar Rapids. During the late 1950's, Frank's son, Robert and his wife Shirley acquired the business. In 1982, Robert passed away and left the business to Shirley. Robert and Shirley's son Terry was working as a funeral director at Brosh Chapel and purchased the business from Shirley. Today, the husband and wife team continues as Terry and Christine Brosh serve families in Johnson and Linn counties.  In March of 2003, the need for expansion impelled Terry and Christine to build a new facility which is now Brosh Chapel and Community Center in Solon. Matt and Katie Linn are the future of the firm as they have partnered with Terry and Christine and will eventually purchase the business.  Matt and Katie vow to maintain the Brosh family tradition of exceptional service.

Brosh Chapel evolved in the spirit of serving families in a professional and compassionate manner.  Four generations and over a hundred years later Brosh Chapel continues to provide quality services to families in their time of need. Providing exceptional service explains why Brosh Chapel in Solon is the oldest business in Johnson County. The Iowa Department of Economic Development presented Brosh Chapel with the Business of Iowa 2002 in Johnson County award.

Throughout the years of service, Brosh Chapel has been known for supporting the Cedar Rapids and Solon communities.  Brosh Chapel is extremely involved in the community through donations, sponsorships, and participation in community events, clubs or organizations. Brosh Chapel is proud to have sponsored or donated to Alzheimer's Association, Camp Courageous of Iowa, Mt. Mercy Scholarship Fund, Solon Library, Solon High School, National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library in Cedar Rapids, Solon Beef Days, Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival and St. Ludmila's Kolach Festival, St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church festivals, St. Wenceslaus Goulash Festival, and many others too numerous to mention.
